There's something stirring in the streets tonight;
The dogs are howling at the moon.
There's a sense of trouble brewing, of ancient wrongs to right,
And it's all gonna happen too soon.
I am a traveller, lost in time, forgotten all my reasons, Leaping without rhyme;
Here to do what I have to do, whatever that may be.
There's a Peacock Angel walking at my side,
There's no-one here can see him, there's no-one there to see.
He has eyes of passion above his wily smile
And the Devil's voice with which to torment me.
Peacock or Angel, keeping me company.
Peacock Angel, why are you following me?
I live the lives of other men, and lives much stranger too,
I don't know what I'm doing here, or what I'm meant to do.
The shadow at my heels is mine, the mirror tells a lie,
And still the Peacock watches me with a wry and knowing smile.
Peacock comrade, Devil at my side, sing my fate in your song.
Will I find my home, will I learn my name,
Put right what once was wrong?
And if I fail, if I should fall, will I lose what's ahead to gain?
Will I meet my end, take a curtain call
Or just go round again?
Peacock or Angel, keeping me company.
Peacock Angel, why are you following me?
The Peacock shadow at my heel makes me want to laugh and cry;
He cracks a joke, spins me a yarn, and eyes the girls as they go by.
Dressed in scarlet, gold and green, in silver and in blue,
His colours shame the bitter greys and fills my life with rainbow hue.
I never think, nor look too close, never wonder why,
The figure I meet waiting in my dreams,
Is lifted up on wings of fire which reach beyond the sky -
Is my laughing Peacock Angel all he seems?
Peacock or Angel, keeping me company.
Peacock Angel, why are you following me?
Tempting me, taunting me, every day
Changing my life and leading me astray
Goading me to carry out the deeds I'd never dare,
Making me a hero, making out he doesn't care.
Peacock or Angel, keeping me company.
Peacock Angel, why are you following me?
A bitter wind is rising in the town that has no name,
And the dead get up and walk down every street.
I run away and hide among the zombie down and outs
Pretending I'm like everyone I meet.
And then I see him standing there, when I know I'm all alone,
When the world around me seems so cold and cruel.
His laughing eyes so full of pain, his hand to guide me home,
And I wonder which of us to call the fool.
Peacock or Angel, keeping me company.
Peacock Angel, why are you following me?
I meet him in my dreaming, with wings that bind the sky
His sword a fiery blade that guards my soul.
His strength steadfast, his duty clear, his heart unmatched, he knows my fear
Together, he and I we make one whole.
The streets may be deserted, yet I know I'm not alone,
There's a Peacock walking softly by my side,
I know I have a purpose here, I know I can succeed,
For my Guardian Angel's joined me on the ride.
Peacock or Angel, keeping me company.
Peacock Angel, why are you following me?
I think it's love, you know.
Peacock or Angel, keeping me company.
Peacock Angel, never stop following me.
Never stop following me.
