This area of the Gallery is respectfully dedicated to the memory of

Kevin Smith

a star in every sense of the word.

War itself is not and cannot be sexy.
But Kevin Smith's portrayal of Ares most certainly was.
He gave us a snarling, smouldering, superlative performance as the God of War.

He'll be a hard act to follow - and an even harder one to forget.

The day I heard the news I felt numb.

When I finally managed to face creating a wall in his memory I spent hours trying to find the right words to go with it.

In the end, this is what felt right to me.

It was several days later that I stumbled over this quote, which seemed remarkably apt - so I made a second wall, partly to commemorate my contribution to the abmx-h's purchase of a star in Kevin's name.

This is the wall I put together for our 'Evolution' theme night.

Ares, as seen in his various aspects, through several seasons of HTLJ, Xena and Young Hercules.

He always gave a stirling performance

And this was one of his best.

Ares in 'Armageddon Now' confronting Callisto and coping with the murder of his nephew Strife.

And in lighter vein, guiding Gabrielle through her self inflicted ordeal in 'Forget me Not'

The god you love to hate. Or hate to love perhaps ...

Speaking of which, here's Ares, the God of Love being a little shocked by the behaviour of his warlike alter ego.

Another wonderful performance, of course.

But he was probably best when he was being bad ...

And he could be very bad indeed.

A god worth inviting to parties in the summer time.

Who needs a barbecue when your guest of honour can do this?

Mind you, if it's Ares you invite, you tend to invite trouble too ...

A visit to his temple might be a safer bet

Might be, I said.

If you're lucky he might give you a personal audience

Maybe even pose for his portrait ...

Ares by Van Gogh.

Well, by me in the style of Van Gogh, anyway

But always remember.

He is the God of War.

And not the King of Corinth.

Even if he is also Hercules' brother and bears a striking resemblance ...
